Heads up.

There are rumors going around that LJ's servers have been moved out of the US and into Russia.

I have no idea how credible these rumors are, I have yet to see the evidence, but a lot of people seem very concerned about the lack of First Amendment rights and so forth if it's true.  I'm not sure what to think yet.

I've backed up my LJ over on Dreamwidth just in case, comments and all, and y'all are welcome to follow me over there if you like.

It's true. I posted a link about it in my journal, but any Google search will give you a lot of hits with stuff like IP traces.

It's true; see mdlbear | LJ server move confirmed. Other entries tagged with lj may provide more background.

More worrying, LJ has introduced a snippet of code to force browsers to degrade a connection from HTTPS to HTTP, allowing it be read at a server level, or by anyone intercepting the packet stream.

So, now all your data is going to Russia, and it's open to being intercepted. Pretty sure their next step will be selling the metadata to whatever commercial ventures want it.

I heard from a very reliable source about this. I'm trying to import my LJ, but I may just start over and forget the past entries.
