Oh, wow! Very cool to know!

A surprisingly large amount of the surgical report is "then [x vessel] was cauterized". It was a high-tech robot-assisted surgery that allowed for maximum efficiency and safety, and made it possible for a major surgery that basically crippled my mother and left her with lifelong side effects to be turned into an outpatient procedure (as defined by insurance, meaning under 24 hours in hospital). I lost internal organs, yet I was walking within a few hours after I came out of anesthesia.

It is just astonishing to me that in my comparatively short lifetime up to this point we've come so incredibly far. The need for open surgery is diminishing with amazing rapidity, and that is honestly a tremendous gift to humanity.

I am so, so lucky that it went so well, and so lucky to live in a time and place that gave me access to this level of care. I am so very grateful.
