One of our gaming buddies brought her new puppy over. Normally, I am opposed to this sort of thing because the cats take Extreme Exception to it (sometimes to the point of peeing on things, which is very upsetting to me), but . . . just this once. JUST THIS ONCE.

Marley 01

OH MY GOD.

Marley 02

There IS no save versus cute. Got that? YOU DO NOT GET A SAVE. You take SAN loss. Or, if you prefer, you take continual spirit damage while puppy-face mode is active, and you may be stunned.

Macro the second one as you see fit. The puppy is part border collie and part cocker spaniel, and his name is Bob Marley. I will have to call him Marley, because I already know a Bob.

Not to be outdone in the cute pets and gaming equipment, Tazendra lets the power go to her head:

Kitty 1 Needs Charging

Her battery life is low and the vibration feedback feature only works for me, but MAN, she is soft. Stylish matte black finish!

This Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] farrandy and [livejournal.com profile] bat_cheva said goodbye to their good friend Underfoot.

Underfoot, in addition to having possibly the best name ever for a Corgi, was a first-rate dog. He was smart, a great conversationalist (if you speak Corgi), a snappy dresser, and a total gentleman. He also used a rock for a pillow, had one ear that would never stand up quite right, and could run clean under the resident Big Dog. He often lay flat on his back, his abbreviated limbs splayed every which way. It was my favorite thing he did. Even though he was dignified most of the time, he was flat-out comical to look at, and so he was sort of the designated Hilarity Dog. He was all-purpose and eminently likeable in the way that dogs are supposed to be. He provided affection and companionship and comic relief.

I haven't uploaded all that many pictures of him, but here are some I took a week or so ago. He was very affectionate, but not approval-seeking or needy. He would just come up and put his head on your leg, or nudge your arm to say "Hey, how about some love for the short Welsh guy in the tux?" He talked a lot, Corgi-talk, groans and grunts and sighs.

The rest of the pictures are what I have up on Flickr. The ones from New Year's, when he and Argus were sacked out on the floor after a drunken bender . . . the shots of him snuggling with me and [livejournal.com profile] bat_cheva on the floor . . . the devil dog picture. He was really photogenic.

Underfoot 01

World's best Corgi. )

I went to visit his people tonight, and his absence was felt deeply. I am still getting teary when I think about him. He was a really great dog, my absolute favorite dog in the world, and a very dear friend. I'm kind of strapped for words, my normal glibness fails me, because . . . damn. I loved the little dude a lot, and I know that his people loved him a hundred times more. They gave Underfoot a fine life, and he didn't have a long and unpleasant decline, so he got a really great deal, but everyone who knew him is going to miss the hell out of him.

Good dog.

This is going around my f-list, and I had my camera near to hand tonight, so:

Take a picture of yourself right now.
Don't change your clothes, don't fix your hair...just take a picture.
Post that picture with NO editing (except, you know, to keep it to a reasonable size).
Post these instructions with your picture.

The Helpful Fish

That's what it's like most of the time. If it's not one cat butt in my face, it's another. Fish is being an especial cuddly little pain in the neck tonight. Those are my new glasses, by the way. I think they're great!

Moving on to two other animal-related notes, I meant to post this yesterday when it could do some good, but had internet problems.

For Tulsa area people, the Sand Springs animal shelter is having an adoption fair this Saturday, the 20th. It's from 10 am to 2 pm at the Atwoods at 730 E Charles Page Blvd. Adoption fees are super, super cheap: $35 per animal, $25 of which is refunded upon spay/neuter. Animals that are already neutered are only $10. If you or someone you know is looking for a pet, this is a great opportunity!

Also, this is Oakley.

DSC00469

A friend emailed me this earlier today:

My neighbor's name is Sarah and her dog is Oakley. He's a Shih-tzu. He was adopted from the shelter and is barely over two years old. He's a funny little dog. When I first went over to Sarah's house Oakley hopped up onto my lap and demanded pettings, all the while growling softly at me. I didn't know what to make of it but then when I went over I came to expect him bouncing up and down and the minute I sat down, him popping into my lap and demanding his pettings.

The other day when I went over there he wasn't doing well. He wouldn't move much and whimpered and was shaking terribly. Sarah and I work together so we headed off to work. When we got home we found that after we left Oakley had gone and hidden behind a chair and laid down and stayed there all day. When he was taken outside he didn't poop and barely piddled. He wouldn't eat or drink either. I took a look at him when I went over there; his gums were pale and sticky. When you picked him up his little body went rigid and after a few seconds he'd start to shake, badly.

Sarah's boyfriend Alex has been laid off and although he's desperately looking for work, the unemployment rate in this area is staggering. Two weeks ago Sarah found out she was pregnant. Their house was recently foreclosed on so they had to move next to us into the trailer of a friend who was spending alot of time out west on buisness. That's just some info on their situation.

Alex and Sarah are so worried about their little guy that they cashed Alex's unemployment check to get him to an emergency vet in Lansing, but even then they couldn't afford the X-rays. Today he was taken to the vet I took my cats to and they were able to get those x-rays as they were a bit more affordable. What they found is unsettling. Three of the discs on his back are quickly deteriorating, making his life very painful. The vet said that it's possible he hurt them by just falling down off the couch, playing with the big dogs or something really simple. They've said that with steady stream of steroids, painkillers and antibiotics, that he might get past this and be on in about a month. But . . . it's also possible that he may not get past it and will have to have surgery.

Needless to say that with a laid off guy, who is trying his best honestly, and her being preggers, they're not exactly on a huge budget for the puppy. So, yeah.

This is the same friend -- the other Amanda -- who, like me, is really diligent about helping critters she comes across. I told her I'd post this so that anyone who is able can lend a hand. It can't hurt to ask. Things suck for a lot of folks right now, and it's not Oakley's fault things got rough for his people. This recession has hit hard, and I hate that our animals suffer, too.

If you can help out, contact Amanda directly at magee.amanda@gmail.com.

I hope y'all have a good weekend! I'll be back tomorrow with some links, and some silliness, and maybe some bone pics.

Crappy Day

My day sucked. So, just in case yours sucked, too, have a cute puppy.

Puck
That's Puck. [livejournal.com profile] bat_cheva and [livejournal.com profile] farrandy's littlest dog. He earns the name anew every day, but it is not possible to stay angry with him. He is as sweet as he is cute. That is, by the way, simultaneously the best and worst "I am innocent" face I have ever seen.

Here is the Mocus. You can actually kind of see how funny-looking she is here.
Pretty Mocus 01

Pretty Mocus 02
She looks really pretty there, though. It's very hard to get good pictures of Tazendra because she's not just black, she's matte finish.

I love my low-albedo kitty.

Amidst all the kittenish cuteness, I have to congratulate [livejournal.com profile] bat_cheva on her new addition. I also thought some puppy pics would be welcome, since not everyone prefers cats.

Remember the super-cute little Pomeranian/Corgi puppies I posted pics of a while back?

Yeah.

They ended up with the sleepy one!

Puppy pics! )

One from [livejournal.com profile] bat_cheva:

Here you can see his actual conformation and coloring, which has lightened a lot. I can see a little Pom in there, but he's mostly Corgi, and damn cute. I am so glad they took him. He will be part of a wonderful and loving family with [livejournal.com profile] bat_cheva and [livejournal.com profile] farrandy and the two ridiculous dogs they already have. I'd say I envy the proud new puppy parents, but really, I think I envy the puppy. Congratulations, you two. He's so freaking cute, and as far as I'm concerned, you are all super-lucky.

You can see more pics over at her journal. We all really think it's funny that he looks like a puppy their dogs would have bred.

* Name subject to change; they haven't decided what else to call him yet.

I promised you puppies, I deliver puppies.

These six little critters are . . . Porgis? Cardiganians? They are half Cardigan Corgi, half Pomeranian, which makes them cuter than just about anything else on the planet. They are also fully adoptable. So if you or anyone you know is in the Tulsa area and is looking for a puppy, you're looking in the right place. If you're interested in adopting one of them, drop me a note (naamah at gmail) and I'll get you the contact information.

Now, on to the puppies!

Get your insulin ready. )

Like I said, half Corgi, half Pomeranian, 100% adorable.

When [livejournal.com profile] bat_cheva and I took these pictures, they were about five weeks old; they should be about seven weeks old now, and almost ready to go home. With you. Because you know you want an adorable doggie with ridiculously abbreviated legs to make all of your friends insanely jealous.

Puppies 18

Later, I will bring you video.

Of puppy kissing.

Because I'm tyrannical like that.

Fish. I realise I post pictures of her a lot, but that is only because she is the single most good-natured and consistently adorable cat I have ever owned.

Just when I thought I had reached the nadir of depression -- people dying in a drowning city, bills to pay, gimpy leg -- I turn to port and see this.

I had my suspicions that Fish likes to snuggle with our stinky old three-legged mutt Cyrus, but I never thought I would actually catch them doing it. Ever.

As you can see, I was wrong.

Then it gets REALLY cute. )

Just to make sure you don't miss the expression of kitty bliss.

I think I may very well die of the cuteness. You all are coming with.
