As I posted about here, [livejournal.com profile] harmanhay has undertaken an absolutely insane challenge: raise $14,000 so that she and her partner Demi can go to Haiti and help build a community center with the money they have raised. Then: replica of the most awesome dress ever. And I mean awesome in the sense that looking at it fills me with awe. Like, actual awe, which includes a certain amount of fear. That dress? Intimidating. And so beautiful. The process will be documented fully, and only donors get to see that.

Well, they are now in the last eight hours before they need to go get their medical stuff done so they can make the trip to Haiti. And they are only $750 from their goal. Compared to what they have raised already, they are so close. And a lot of that was from youall's generosity. I see a lot of familiar names on the leaderboard she's posted. A lot of one dollar, five dollar, ten dollar donations from people I know are as dirt-poor and busted-ass broke as I am. Donations that mean so much.

I firmly believe that the world needs a replica of this dress, that such an endeavor undertaken and documented by someone as meticulous and professional as [livejournal.com profile] harmanhay would have great cultural and historical value. We could learn so much from it.

I also firmly believe that the world needs more people willing to go and make a difference with their own hands, to do something brave and frightening and selfless to help people whose lives have been screwed. Bravery like this is rare. Most people can't afford it. Many more won't even give it a shot. This is an amazing project, the community center, the rebuilding. The kind of thing that the world needs. It has great human value.

And I believe that they can raise the last $750. I believe that a dollar, five dollars at a time is enough to make this happen. If you can, give just that much. No guilt, no apologies necessary. If you can't, please, spread the word. Repost, link, tweet, stick it up on Facebook.

Even if they don't make the full amount, the money goes toward that community center anyway, so it's still a huge win.

So go and read this post, and donate. There's information on the stuff you need to include in the donation to make sure it goes toward their total.

I am going to go to bed soon. I would like to wake up to good news. Something happy. I'm in a shitty place right now, and could use some of that hope, myself. So let's make something good happen for people whose lives are even more screwed than mine. Please. Let's put something good into the world a dollar at a time. Let's make two incredible things happen. Let's do it together.

So, the incredibly brilliant [livejournal.com profile] harmanhay has entered this sort of charity contest where, if she is among the first 40 people to raise $5,000 for Hope to Haiti, she will get to go there and help build a community center. Details are here.

I think this is amazing all on its own: a competitive charity drive where the reward is, itself, a charitable act.

THEN she promises that donors will be let in on a special filter to watch the sewing progress on a particularly awesome project she has planned. To make a reproduction of this outfit:

That painting is very nice, but fails to get the point across.

PEACOCK DRESS. Seriously, click that link and look at the full-sized image. What you are seeing is an entire dress FESTOONED in beads and embroidery. One of the most amazing things, holy CRAP.

This business takes up a lot of my time now, and it's unlikely I could ever make another Oak Leaf Dress, realistically. But if there was a change-the-world incentive, I'd make time to recreate the most insane, the most daunting dress I've ever seen.... the Peacock Dress, complete with its acres and acres of beading, beetle wings, cloth of gold, the lot... and blog the entire story for my donors to read.

She is an amazing artist. Her last big project, a reproduction of the Worth oak leaf dress from 1903 was amazing, SO COOL to watch go together from start to finish. This would be a huge undertaking, but I know the results will be incredible.

The more she raises, the more of the dress she will make! Right now, we have an embroidered corset. That alone is going to be worth donating to see. TRUST ME. I would really like to see her do the whole thing, and I would really like to see her get to go to Haiti. This whole thing has guts. She is brave as hell, and the best kind of crazy, for attempting this. My hat is off.

And part of me just really, really wants to see if she can raise the money. I would like to see that happen.

You can donate any amount and get in, even a dollar. The charity sponsoring the whole shebang, Random Acts, is a good one. Fandom-based, even.

So go check out her entry and video and consider donating something, even if it isn't much. It will be worth it for pictures of the peacock dress!

And if you can't donate, spread the word. This is so cool. Everyone wins.

Puppy has been achieved! There will be puppy pics! It is awesome!

Thank you all so much for helping make this happen. Stuff like this makes a difference in a world where people have the annoying habit of not giving a fuck about one another.

I promised I would write something if you did this, and you did, and I shall, so here's the deal:

The poll below will remain open for two days.

I will take the most popular answer and write an explicitly pornographic short story or vignette of at least 2,000+ words, but no promises of length beyond that.

It will be explicit, probably kinky, and I have no idea if it will be straight or gay or bisexual in general thrust. Ha ha ha. I'd give you all input over that, but I think it's best if we let the muse of pornography decide that for me, thus preserving the element of surprise. Sorry.

I will try to post it on the twenty-first of June, which gives me plenty of time, but again, no promises.

If you have ideas besides the ones listed below, you can put them in the text box, where answers will be invisible to anyone but me (though I may post the fun ones without attribution), or you can comment. Flippant answers are fine, but I would be really happy if you would express a real preference too, because that makes it way more fun for me!

[Poll #1563677]

Like a red, red pony, y'all.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] apocalypticbob has promised to write some smut, too. She's awesome with a very dirty mind. You are getting a really good deal, here.

You guys are AMAZING.

As of now, [livejournal.com profile] clayshaper is short only a couple hundred bucks for his service puppy, and because it has to go from PayPal to the bank, he basically needs the money today to be sure of having it. He's already gotten an extension on the time, so he really needs it, sort of, like, now. It takes time to move money from PayPal to the bank.

In case you don't recall, he is getting a trainee pup to succeed his current totally awesome superdog, Big Bertha, whose adventures are chronicled here on Livejournal: [livejournal.com profile] bboa!

So.

There is a donate button here.

I do not grok Facebook, but I know many of you understand the interface. Here are Facebook links. Spread them!

Service Puppy Facebook page!

Auctions on Facebook here!

Donate button, to which you can link!

Please spread the word. That may be the most helpful thing you can do.

Seriously, y'all, how much would it suck to miss getting something this necessary by just a couple hundred bucks? I've kicked in what I can, and I am sure that we can make the rest happen.

Spread the word on Facebook, if you use it, on Twitter, wherever you can. We can do this, and we can do it fast.

And I will make you a deal. I am going to bed soon. In nine hours, I am getting up.

If he has the money by then, I will write and post an erotic short story (about 2,000 - 4,000 words, maybe more) with subject matter likely to relate to:

1) Werewolves.

2) Vampires.

3) Pirates.

4) Some other thing, good suggestions to be seriously considered.

Gods save us all, I will poll you for your preference, take that heavily into account (no promises, but I will try) and post it on the twenty-first of June, for the summer solstice.

Buy this man a puppy, for Pete's sake.

I love you all.
