This is Astraea!  She is a cartographer, astronomer, and navigator.

She was a Patreon reward pony for the lucky winner of my yearly drawing for $15+ patrons.

If you guys could help spread the word about my Patreon, that would be swell.  We took a big financial hit the week before last when Bear lacerated her toe and twisted her ankle.  She was only able to return to work yesterday.  We could really use the boost.

I want to get up to 50 patrons and $500 by the end of the year, and I think those are both doable.  The second will be a little harder, so I could use all the help I can get.

Patrons get access to full photo shoots for each custom as well as more behind the scenes stuff.  Patrons at the $15+ level get entered in the yearly drawing for a custom pony.

So if you or your friends are into supporting queer disabled artists, here's a good chance to do that.  The money helps pay bills, buys my meds, feeds us, and gets our cats closer to adequate vet care.

If you want to signal boost on Tumblr,
that post is right here.

In the meantime, how gorgeous is this babe?

The nylon of her hair is very fine and translucent, so delicate that the color shifts slightly depending on the angle - the white looks blue where it's viewed in oblique light, the blue looks purple, the purple looks pink.  It's not an effect I was able to capture adequately, but you should know about it because it makes her absolutely radiant in person.

I honestly think she might be the prettiest custom I've done.  I don't know.  It's hard to say, so many of them have been so beautiful.  But I am especially pleased with her.  You know how sometimes you hit exactly what you were aiming at?

Yeah.

You know how sometimes you hit it right out of the park, better than you had hoped?

Yeah, that.

Really happy with her.  I hope you enjoy taking a look!

Again, her full shoot is available on Patreon to patrons of any level, even $1.  Please go give it a look!  Help us support ourselves!

Thanks, everyone!

This pretty gal was a gift from my client to their beloved, and I think she came out really beautifully.

She fought me pretty hard, and she was really hard to photograph (digital cameras do not like purple at all), but I am so happy with her. A little goth, and little princess, very pretty, very romantic, and dang, look at her hair. That's perfect, is what that is. She came out so sweet and lovely!

This set went up on my Patreon a while back, and I also have clearance to share it here, so here it is!

New patrons are always welcome!

Drop on by for a visit!

(Not taking commissions, sorry!)

Winterstar 01

Here's Winterstar! Been trying to get good pics of her for ages now.

I shared these on Patreon the other day, but I wanted to share them here, too, so I can encourage you to sponsor in and support these ponies. Even a dollar helps. Five is great. I'd like to get a little more comfortably above the $400 mark this month.

Winterstar 02

She started out as a G3 Rarity with really ratty hair and some symbol rubs, but good body color and no staining. Perfect bait pony.

Winterstar 03

I rehaired her in Sugarplum and Virgin Snow Dollyhair nylon. The Sugarplum has this neat matte texture to it. It was interesting to work with. A little stiffer and a little more "grabby".

Winterstar 04

She has stars on both sides of her butt.

Winterstar 05

One is extra sparkly with a big Swarovski right on her patoot.

Winterstar 06

I think the gazillion tiny stars came out really nicely. She reminds me of G1 Twilight although while I was painting her the similarities in color and theme didn't occur to me.

Winterstar 07

Her butt.

I just wanted this crazy random scatter of stars and I think I did okay. The trees around her legs were fun to paint.

Winterstar 08

Love her pearly horn.

Winterstar 09

My favorite part: she has a little bear on her rear right heel, leaning up to nose at a star.

Winterstar has a backstory! It involves a fallen star and a very large bear and rather a lot of snow. If you want to see it, you can hit up my Patreon. That particular creation is right here.

If you want to signal boost her on Tumblr, here she is!

Thank you, everyone.  <3

I gave you a sneak peek at this girl back around V-Day, but here's the finished set.

I've put this one up on Patreon, but it's free -- you can go look at it and download the little PDF booklet, or the individual pics. You can also share it on Facebook. The tumblr post is right over here, if you wanna share that. I'd like to pull in a few more patrons this month, considering how rough things have been.

Baby Stardust has kind of an epic story.

Baby Stardust 1

Back when Bear and I first met in bellydance class, she had this little G1 Baby Firefly on the dashboard of her truck. It enabled us to strike up a conversation about My Little Ponies, and we sort of formed a friendly acquaintance based on that and on a mutual love of The Last Unicorn. We hung out a few times, she bought some ponies off me, but we sort of fell out of touch.

Baby Stardust 2

She moved to Alaska, then Washington State. We reconnected via the internet, she visited a few times, and then a year and a half ago or thereabouts, she moved back here to Oklahoma where she was promptly inducted into our geeky gaming-and-bad-movies group. Everyone loved her, because she's easy to love.

She also brought all her old ponies with her, and unloaded some of them on me for custom bait . . . including that Baby Firefly. I knew it was her because of the sticky on her back hoof from being stuck to the dashboard. I hid her away. Someday, I knew, I was gonna do something really special with her.

Baby Stardust 3

We became really good friends. Really good. Like, drift-compatible we-named-our-jaeger good. Hung out all the time, RP partners, dorking about everything, just . . . really good friends.

Meanwhile, everyone in the world -- including a random shop owner in Eureka Springs and The Actual Bear herself -- realized that we were a couple.

Time passed.

Vacations were had.

A clue was found. It belonged to me.

Baby Stardust 4

A train ride happened. Certain words were said. And the next morning I woke up early and went out before she got up to grab a thing she'd seen the day before and wanted.

On the way, I impulsively ducked into a little shop and saw a gorgeous dichroic glass necklace (like this one, but not that one) with a tree on it. Stunning little thing. From all the way across the shop I was like "YES THAT I WILL TAKE THAT ONE PLEASE" and I bought it without even looking at the price.

And I brought it back to her in bed and gave it to her and she was so utterly delighted and it was lovely.

Baby Stardust 5

But a couple of months later, the glass tile broke off the bail and was lost somewhere along her delivery route. Her beautiful necklace was no more.

Sadness ensued.

Then I remembered Baby Firefly. A plan was born.

I made this little gal.

Baby Stardust 6

I wanted her to look like the dichroic glass.  I think she does.  I had to color correct these photos so they would show the green tint on her legs, and may have gone a little overboard with it in a couple of places, but the first two are pretty accurate.

The pictures simply do not do her justice.  How she shimmers.  I painted her base coat in pure pthalo blue lightened with pearlescent paint, then sponged more pearl over her to make highlights on her rump, face, wings, and legs.  I layered watered down color and watered down pearl paint over her several times, building up a really vivid iridescent effect.  I used two different kinds of blue -- one purplish, one greenish -- on her body, used green on her legs near the horizon, and purple on her cheeks, ears, nose, and wingtips.

Then I added a whole ocean of shimmering pearlescent stars among the trees. And when that was done, I rehaired her with Dollyhair nylon in Diamond, a stunning new sparkling white that I adore.

I am very, very proud of her!

I was still nervous, but when I gave her to The Actual Bear, she was delighted.  (Of course she was. But I was still really nervous.)

Anyway.  That's the story!

Thank you guys for sticking with me!

Been a while since I've been able to share anything with you, but I'm hoping that will change as I get back on the proverbial horse and back to the literal toy horses.

These little snow ponies will be up for auction once Patreon patrons have had a shot at them, so a soft heads-up on that.

These images are taken from the little pdf booklet I whipped up for patrons. Better pictures go up there, and more pictures go up there, just fyi.  Here's the link, if you wanna jump on in.

Here we have . . .

Winter Ponies Page 2 Large

Flurry!

Made from a G3 Lolligiggle and rehaired in Dollyhair Nylon in Virgin Snow, she was a quick warmup before embarking on finishing the ponies I had on the blocks and working on fulfillment ponies from Indiegogo campaigns.

She turned out so cute that I had to make . . .

Winter Ponies Page 3 Large

Snowdrift!

Made from a G3 Rainbow Dash and rehaired, like his sis, in Dollyhair Nylon in Virgin Snow.

These guys went super-fast while I was working on them, not a single hitch, and I am very pleased with them, especially with Flurry's little white nose and Snowdrift's white eye splotch.

Cute, aren't they?

Winter Ponies Page 10 Large

As far as the Patreon thing goes, everything is chugging along remarkably well.

I wanna take the chance to thank everyone who has joined up and who has shared -- I'm seeing a lot of new names, so I know the sharing is working!

I've been posting nearly daily progress pics of the ponies I have up on the blocks.  We cleared the first two milestones nearly without effort, and there was a patrons-only vote on the theme for the mama/baby pair I'm gonna start on as soon as I finish the next pony so I have room on the table.  (I prefer not to set them aside if I can possibly help it.  I hit the second goal so fast I wasn't actually prepared, so I've got some painting to do!  It's going super-well, though.)

I am a sneeze away from the third goal, at which point I will start drafting design ideas for one of the great big styling size G3 ponies.  They're like nine inches high.  I've never done one of those, so I'm both excited and super scared!

Once I start getting payments at the beginning of next month, I'll be able to set aside a little each month for art supplies to allow me to continue to do this and pay the internet bill.  If I hit the $350 goal, I'll be able to pay the electric, too.

I'm really excited about that.

Anyway, I have three more ponies besides these two finished and ready to be photographed.  So I'm gonna go try to get some of that done.  Thanks for looking! Catch you again soon!

It's not Thursday, but who cares?

Meet Ember and Phantom Blacklock, steampunk pirates and scourges of the skies over Equilonia!

Steampunk Ponies Couple Hero 2

These are the ponies I did for the Queen of the Sky Frontier campaign.

I would be sorely remiss if I did not point out that there is still one custom pony slot open over at the Indiegogo campaign for Imperial Blood. Head over there and get your own vampire pony!

Ember Blacklock 1 Hero

I have about a million pictures under here, so dial-up users will be sad pandas. )

And the very last one (yes, I airbrushed out Phantom's neck seam just to see if I could).

Steampunk Ponies Couple Hero 1

And there you have it!

I hope you enjoyed the pictures.  Please comment and let me know!  I worked really hard on these guys, even managing to get them done despite a creative slump, and am incredibly proud.  I think they're possibly the best work I've done, and I sincerely, deeply hope that their new owners are happy with them.  Sending them off was hard.  It was so freakin' hard.  And I don't usually feel that way about the stuff I make.  This time . . . I was just a little in love with them.

Don't forget, they each have a little vignette I wrote for them, coming soon!  I just want to reach goal on the campaign first.  We're at 71% with eight days left to go.

And on that note I'll just point out that I don't do customs on commission, unless you nab a spot in a campaign.  Otherwise, you have to wait until I do one, then try to catch it in auction.  So if you want a pony, again, there's a slot left over at the Imperial Blood campaign.  These ponies will be vampire-themed (read: will probably look slightly goth) with optional fairy wings and/or NSFW attachments.  You can pick the colors, and I go nuts with the rest.  They won't be any less kickass than Ember and Phantom.

Oh, yeah, feel free to link people here so they can see the ponies, if you know anyone who likes that sort of thing!  I would love to show these guys off!

Thing I Made Thursday, one day early! To make up for all the days-late posts!

Serenity was awfully secretive about her name. She wouldn't give me anything, and then she gave me that, and I was like, "So simple? Okay!" What the pony wants, the pony gets.

She was a gift for [livejournal.com profile] brightlotusmoon. She arrived at her new home today, and now I can post pics!

Serenity

She was made from a G3 Blue Mist who had awful hair and lots of symbol and glitter rubs, and some glue drips, but was otherwise in pretty great shape. This is only the first or second time I've used the pony's base color without repainting.

I'm very happy with how she came out. I think she's right up there in the running for cutest of all the ones I've made.

She was rehaired, as always, in Dollyhair Nylon. The colors are Virgin Snow and Lemon Drop. She was repainted in acrylics and sealed with Testor's Dullcote.

I love her eyes:

Serenity Eyes

More under here! )

It's hard to see, unfortunately, in the pictures, but I did something new with her. Using Pearl-Ex powders, I gave her blush on both cheeks and a little bit on her nose. I also took gold Pearl-Ex and went up over her eyebrow ridges so she has a little bit of shimmer above the painted eyeshadow. The effect is subtle, but in person it gives her this lovely glow. I am definitely using this technique again.

I absolutely adore her, and I know her new best friend will adore her, too.

Oh my god, you guys. I love it.

Jetan set - crimson light 2

This was incredibly labor-intensive, but I am so proud of it.

I may have mentioned that I love Edgar Rice Burroughs' Mars books. They are pulpy, seriously problematic in terms of gender and race issues, and occasionally incredibly stupid, but I adore them.

I got a kick in the butt now that we've begun the new gaming campaign, and since our continuum's Mars is canonically Barsoom, I decided I wanted to play a lady panthan (a wandering warrior of no fixed affiliation or abode; a sort of knight-errant). I mean, hot. We've recently touched on how my characters acquire things. I decided that Shara should have a traveling Jetan set so that she could strike up a game of Martian chess with friendly fellow travelers and maybe win herself a bit of cash.

So I made it. Shrug.

Lots of pics under here! )

Traveling panthan's Jetan set

Obviously the set's seen a bit of wear, and a bit of combat.

To see a list of rules and pieces, and to learn more about the game, you can go go to the ERBList site's page on Jetan.

So, that's what I spent a good chunk of last week doing. Hope you enjoy the pics, and my geeking out. Hopefully at least a few of you will love the idea as much as I do -- I know I have other ERB/Barsoom fans reading me.

Kaor, and have an awesome weekend.

It's not Thursday? Well, I won't care if you won't.

I made some things, and I put them on Etsy, where you can buy them if you like.

They are bookmarks, and they are in a new section of my shop. Click here to visit, or click on any of the pictures below.

These are the fancier ones, but I have simpler ones that are less expensive, and all are under $20, so if you are looking to spend a little Christmas money, or looking for a late gift, or just want to get yourself something pretty, I can set you up!

Celestial Romance 1

I made about forty bookmarks for the Golden Mask campaign and Pride and Prostitutes print campaign, and when I was done I took the supplies and made some extras to sell. If these do well, I'll make more. It's very enjoyable.

Give Love Wings 1

I mean, really, that is beautiful.

Lock and Key 3

My favorite of the ones I listed. Already sold, alas, but there are many others! And you should look at them! If you like them, feel free to link to them on your journal, Facebook, Tumblr, whatever it is you crazy kids do these days.

You can see the Flickr set with highlights by clicking this link right here.

I made this!

This is my first attempt at Fantasy Film fairy wings, and while they did a couple of unexpected things and didn't come out as I had planned, they still look really cool. I love the opalescence!

Snowbright 02 Flank

Snowbright is a little snow princess, and in the winter she can often be found outside drawing frosty pictures on windows, or icing over the Queen's ponds and fountains for the other ponies to skate and slide around on. She loves freezing cold winter days, when the sun sparkles brilliantly off the ice and snow. When she has to come inside, she loves to read fairy tales and pirate romances, and would kind of like to grow up to marry the dashing pony pirate, Lady Scarletine.

More pics below cut! )

Snowbright 05 Wings From Rear

I hope you enjoyed having a look at her! I will probably be auctioning her off, or flat-out quick-selling her, on Monday or Tuesday next.

I love winter and I love the winter holidays, so I'm hoping to do at least two more seasonal ponies this year. So pretty!

Between one thing and another, it took me forever to get these pictures taken, but here they are (and I don't care if it's not Thursday, at this point I'm just attached to the name).

Meet Tricky Jill and Candy Jack, the Halloween twins!

Halloween Ponies 01

Jack and Jill snuck out to kill . . .

Okay, that's maybe a little morbid for these two cuties, who look like they might be cut-ups, but not in the slasher-movie sense.

Tricky Jill and Candy Jack are twins. Their birthday is October 1st, so they get to celebrate their favorite holiday all month long!

Jill loves old-fashioned popcorn balls, creepy cornfields, and rolling in the hay. To her, Halloween is all about spending quality time with friends who will let you be who you really are, even if who you are is occasionally annoying. She's a little bit of a troublemaker and plays pranks on absolutely everyone, and she loves galloping through the fallen leaves just for the crunchy noise. She can usually be found drinking cider in the pumpkin patch.

Jack loves pumpkin spice, Hammer movies, and games of hide and seek. He also likes to get fancy and go out dancing -- he's a little flamboyant, and enjoys sharing his sister's makeup and clothes. If you had his pretty coloring, you'd want to show it off, too. For him, Halloween is about experimenting with who you are, and not letting other folks' expectations dictate how you dress or think. He spends most of his time in the library, reading old horror anthologies.

They are two of a kind, always together, and always ready for fun and games.

Fuck yeah. How about that?

More Halloween-y goodness right this way! )

Halloween Ponies 02

Jill is on top, Jack is on the bottom.

Jack and Jill were both made from G3 Sparkleworks baits. And I do mean baity baits. Wow. Anyway, the orange on their bodies is the original pony color, I just faded the black over it. I had two great ideas for Halloween ponies, but they were so close to one another, and I couldn't pick, so I decided to just make twins. I really enjoyed it. And they are so cute together!

If you have friends who love Halloween, send 'em this way and give them something adorable to look at! I've also put it up on Tumblr here: feel free to reblarg!

I'll be auctioning them off together starting this Wednesday, the 17th, so that the winner will have them in time for Halloween! If there's enough interest I'll take it to eBay, but otherwise I'll keep it here, like I have been. There's two, so bidding will start higher.

Mask and Fox

So there's that. You can see more pics by clicking.

Right this way! )

I am kinda in love here.

I made these bolder, sharper, so they'd look better from a distance, and reduced to smaller sizes. If you are thinking that the prints will look absolutely kickass, you are right. The final prints will be 8x10. We may do an open run, but the only signed and numbered ones will be the ones ordered through the Indiegogo campaign.

The 9x12 originals are still available. You know. Just in case you want 'em and have the scratch.

If you've already donated and want to upgrade to the next sponsorship level (or higher), we will make sure that happens.

We are at 86%, with $480 to go. That is madness, people. We are doing SO well. Y'all are amazing. Just amazing.

Awesomeness is just a click away!

naamah_darling: Picture of a treasure chest with a skull and crossbones on top. My art! (Artistic)
Oh, hey. Yeah, this is late. I'm sorry.

Madame Swallowtail is a Harsh Mistress

Brace yourselves, kiddos, because it's about to get very, very wrong. And there's a LOT of pictures under the cut. (Yeah, I over-photograph my ponies. You would too, if you knew they were going to go away and you would never see them again. Sob.)

Let's just cut to the chase, shall we? )

Madame Swallowtail Portrait

When I was smoothing her hair, I used some nice conditioner to keep it from frizzing. She now, ironically, smells of vanilla.

I don't normally go for the slick-packaged dominatrix look, I have issues with it, but I suppose this could be considered parody, or social commentary, or something. Or just something that really, really needed to be done. And should probably be done again.

She will go up for auction on Wednesday or Thursday. She needs a new home with an appreciative audience for her perverted pony antics! I'll be starting the bidding a bit higher for her, since she comes with everything up there. Toys, box, and all.

So that's Swallowtail, and I hope that you enjoyed her! I've been having a great time playing with her and taking pictures, even though between the shiny black and soft white and bright hair she's damn hard to photograph. Still, I think the results are good, and I hope she brightened your Monday.

Sorry. I mean Thursday.

* If someone has a kid with orthodontics, and could grab some in various colors next time they go in, I will cover the cost and shipping.
naamah_darling: Picture of a treasure chest with a skull and crossbones on top. My art! (Artistic)
Hey there!

I know y'all are ALL EXCITED about the bondage pony, and so am I. But we can't forget poor Stormlight, who has been waiting for his turn so patiently.

Stormlight is a weather-caller, but he's pretty young and kind of stinks at it. He reads fantasy webcomics voraciously, sings karaoke, and his favorite holiday is Christmas. He's learning contact juggling, is bad at swearing, and is way tougher than his cute exterior would lead you to believe. To make extra money, he rents himself out for riding. Kinky.

Here's pics! They don't adequately show his shading, which is darker around his eyes and on his ears than it appears here.

Stormlight MLP Custom

He started out as a G3 Breezie in really bad shape, and has been made over with a full-body repaint and new hair in Dollyhair Black Magick, Bobby Blue, and Virgin Snow nylon hair.

Moar this way! Moar! )

Stormlight Nose Mark

I love the little windy blaze on his nose, and his silver guyliner.

I am thinking about adding a necklace -- totally removable, of course. He needs a little something, I think.

I really like him. I realize I say that about every pony I make, so it's probably repetitive, but I do like them all. They all make me happy! I like things that make me happy!

Anyway, I also wanted to thank [livejournal.com profile] efamar and her mum, who brought me a box full of bait ponies rescued from a yard sale a couple weeks ago. I understand a little girl came out and gave them a Death Glare as they left, and while I do think this is hilarious I loved my own ponies dearly, so I understand.

I wish I could assure her that her candy-colored comrades are destined for a fabulous future as divas, rock stars, superheroes, queens, princesses, fairies, angels, demons, pirates, lovers, and fighters. I make them braver and fiercer, I take their flaws and paint right over them with pretty colors and designs . . . or incorporate them into the story. It is the very best of fates for a pony that has been played with so much that nobody loves it anymore, or for a pony that has been outgrown and no longer has a place or person. Or, in the case of these yard-sale ponies, ponies that were probably parted with reluctantly.

Sure, they'll have to be shorn, beheaded, scraped out, stripped, and stabbed with sharp things, but she doesn't need to know that. It's a magical transformation, and at no point do I stick half of a pair of scissors where the tail used to go and make their buttholes larger. Nooope.

Anyway! Stormlight will go up for auction on Monday, lasting for a week. That's been working, I have hopes it will continue to work. Y'all have been lovely and supportive and altogether unexpectedly generous and I want to thank you for that.
naamah_darling: The right-side canines of a wolf's skull; the upper canine is made of gold. (Default)
I am EXPLODING with delight to finally get these pictures in front of you! Seriously, I am bubbling over with happy feels.

Here she is!

Stolen Kisses 01

Stolen Kisses sails the Seven Seas on her ship, the Heartbreaker, filling her coffers with ill-gotten gold and jewels and leaving a trail of beautiful lovestruck girls and boys in her wake. She never has to get rough to get what she's after; nobody ever puts up a fight. What does she do in her spare time? Let's just say that this pretty little filly sure puts the buck in buccaneer, but she never kisses and tells!

(Shut uuuup. THERE ARE STORIES ABOUT HER IN MY HEAD. It's acutely embarrassing.)

You need to see these pics, seriously. )Stolen Kisses 07

I cannot get enough of her. She sits by my bed where my nightlight shines on her. She is without a doubt my favorite pony that I have done. She isn't for sale, obviously, because I would have no idea what to charge for all the fiddly little accessories, and because I just don't want to part with her.

Specs: Stolen Kisses was made from a terribly battered and manky G3 Royal Rose. Seriously, look and see, she still has these adorable little chew mark scars on her right forehoof from someone's baby teeth.

She was fully rehaired in nylon Dollyhair in Black Magick, Bougainvillea, and Ultraviolet, all mixed up together. And she looks fabulous.

I started her back in December, I think, and then she sat around, half-painted, until I found the wherewithal to really go for it. I knew I couldn't do a halfassed job or it would just never work. And now, here she is, and I could not be happier with her.

I've been so . . . so broken, lately, I guess, that nothing has felt doable except this sort of thing. Just brainless adorableness and pretty, harmless things, and whatever magical-feeling things I can make out of stuff I have lying around. I can't handle anything hard or sharp or ugly or difficult right now. I can barely answer emails. So doing stuff like this cheers me up, and it cheers me up to be able to show y'all pictures of her, because I am so proud and because I hope she might cheer you up, too.

Goddammit, I make magic, I share magic.

Pics of the blingy pirate pony are getting taken this weekend, if I can manage it. The past few days have been a little grueling.

For now, have these pics of Amor Volat.

I wanna say up front, she will be for sale! I am contemplating auctioning her here on LJ, since eBay are kind of dicks, and I don't like the part where they take my money. So if you are interested in her and willing to bid on her in a future post, let me know in comments. The auction would be on LJ, not DW.

Second, these pics came out very blue/purple and though I corrected them, they are still a little bit off. The very light pinks in her markings came out too purple. Her eyes are pinker than they look here. The pink in her hair occasionally looks too magenta-y. This is mostly me nitpicking. I wanted to do a reshoot, but haven't had the energy, and these pics are still pretty good, so here they are!

Amor Volat 01

She was made from a G3 Sunny Daze who was in pretty bad shape with matted hair and a lot of indelible marker stains. A black repaint was just what she needed! This particular mold has such a sweet expression. I had to completely behead her to get her taken apart, so her head does not turn. That doesn't suit the pose anyway, so it's okay.

Amor Volat 02

Her cutie mark says "love flies" and she has little wings on her back hooves.

More pics! )

All about her hair and her experimental paint job. )

Since the texture is very plastic-y, and the black is so very black, perfectly black with no hint of any other color, I am planning on doing a fetish pony with some really inappropriate accessories. A pony I will never be able to show at the MLPArena. That will be really, really fun!

Overall I am really happy with her -- not with the pictures, though -- and I hope that someone will decide they just have to have her.

What's that? It's not Thursday? Who the hell gives a crap?! I'm having an off-kilter day and need to cheer myself up, and maybe you need cheering up, too! Besides, since this is the most awesome thing you have seen since Thursday, time might as well have been standing still! Behold:

Chandraki 01

This is Chandraki, and she was [personal profile] bat_cheva's Christmas present.

That's right, Christmas present.

That is how long it is taking me to Get Shit Done. SHAME. For the record, darling, I'm sorry about the wait. There really was no reason for the hair to have taken that long.

Anyway! Chandraki means "peacock" in Oriya. Original, I know. But she is a peacock- and henna-themed pony, because [personal profile] bat_cheva loves those things and I love those things and have wanted to do a peacock pony for, like, years now.

Chandraki likes electronica, heist movies, and anything orange-flavored, and her favorite thing to do on weekends is tie her hair back and get dirty in the garden. She has a soft spot for daffodils.

(Don't give me that look. Don't you even pretend you didn't make up stories about your ponies. You know you did. You are guilty.)

More pics! You should see her butt! It's awesome! )

The postman walked up while I was shooting outdoors and seemed thoroughly perplexed and yet charmed by the whole thing, and we talked ponies for a minute or two. He was shocked when I told him I could probably get a hundred and fifty for her, easy, and though I do not like putting numbers on my work (it's my least favorite part of what I do) I do not think I was lying. I think she is that good. I am that proud of her. Crazy proud.

It is super-silly on the face of it, but doing this has made a little part of me happy in a way I have not been in a very long time. Like, since I was twelve. I know a lot of y'all are not "pony people," and I really just so much appreciate it when you say "I am not a pony person, but that is awesome!" but I think that only all y'all who are pony people really understand what I mean.

There's this corner of my mind where the sweet smell of new pony vinyl means that everything will be okay, that there are still new and beautiful things in the world, that you have friends who will never leave you no matter how many times you pull their heads off and transplant them onto other bodies.

The days are endless there, and sunny, and smell like dusty window screens and cut grass, and there is nothing at all to be afraid of, anywhere. It's the one part of my childhood that was as promised, like it said on the box, like they made it look on TV.

That's why I have been so adamant about not doing this for money. I will sell some of the ones I make, but I will never, ever take commissions, because I don't want the pressure and the stress to turn this one stupidly magical thing into something else that's a commodity, another part of me that I have to hack into and use for work, not pleasure. And that's why I hope, when this financial crisis is over, I will be able to put all that pony money into my travel fund, because I can think of no better way to get to some distant, beautiful land than on the backs of magical, sparkly horses. I will take a list of their names with me and turn them all loose in the wind. Free, you bastards. Free.

I am legit tearing up right now. How ridiculous is that?

I don't ever want this to become work. Right now, this is literally the only thing I am able to do for fun. Everything else has become work. As such, it is priceless.

Chandraki 11

I hope you enjoyed the pics, and that if you were feeling crappy, she cheered you up a little. I you think she might cheer up someone else, feel free to send them her way. She was really happy to meet you all!

Now I am going to go and work on some boxes, because I do need to sell some stuff, I do need the money, and that means I can't always work on ponies. But, since I have a nice thing that I can do when I am not working, that makes working much easier. Almost like playing.

I am being stubbornly fucking cheerful, in case you have not noticed, because I have a sneaky fear that everything is about to come crashing down around my shoulders at any second. Usually this does not work, but it's working pretty well today.

Look who's finished!

And look who's on eBay!

I'd really appreciate any signal boosting you wanted to do for this one.

Briar Rose 01

I did decide to curl her hair! The uneven and kind of messy look is all right, I think, in the context of a wild rose pony. I am not 100% sure I prefer it to the straight hair, but I'm leaving it as it is. If the person who winds up with her reeeally wants to straighten it, they can do so, and I'll tell them how (not responsible for results, but it shouldn't hurt her).

You SO need to see all of these pics. )

Briar Rose 12

The silver around her eyes is so pretty.

So, I learned a lot from her, and I look forward to putting all that learning into play on my next pony.

And, again, because clearly I haven't linked it enough, eBay! Yes, bidding is starting high. There's actually fifteen dollars' worth of hair there all by itself. Not to mention the OMG hours of work. So bid freely!
